Toxin Awareness In Feminine Products
A new study has revealed the presence of 16 different metals in tampons, including harmful ones such as lead, mercury, and cadmium. This study is particularly alarming as the vagina has a higher potential for chemical absorption.
Exposure to metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic has been linked to significant health issues including endocrine disruption, reproductive problems, and dementia. These metals can mimic hormones, interfere with hormone signaling, and disrupt thyroid function, leading to fertility issues, pregnancy complications, and developmental problems.
During this study, scientist discovered, Non- Organic Tampons contained the highest concentration of lead while Organic Tampons had higher levels of arsenic, their research suggested this may be due to the use of natural fertilizers in organic cotton fields which could lead to higher levels of arsenic in the final product.
Menstrual pads have been found to contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), chemicals known for their persistence in the environment and the human body. PFAS can disrupt endocrine function, potentially leading to hormonal imbalances, reproductive issues, and an increased risk of certain cancers. These chemicals can accumulate over time, posing long-term health risks.
